What will be in every cool girl's closet this season? A strong dose of eighties edge.
Yeah, you heard right, the age of excess is making a comeback (at least in fashion, that is).
But lose the big hair, bubblegum, Go-Go, oversized shirts vision of your mom in high school;
this eighties redux is tough punk princess that's definitely ready to rock and roll in your homeroom.
To make the 2009 version a hit, channel new wave bad boy bands from the best of the 80's.
Swipe your mom's old albums-English Beat, Depeche Mode and The Cure-and do a quick study
of the lead singer's style. You'll want to load up on some or all of these: neon, animal
print shirts and scarves, heavy metal jewelry, super skinny denim and colored jeans,
long and lean tanks and graphic tees (think lightning bolts, paint splatters and anything
rock and roll), plain and patterned leggings, bomber jackets, bright plaid accents, scrunchy
boots and plenty of black and white basics. Master the mix by doing the layering thing. Pull
on a long neon leopard tank over leggings, pop on plastic bright bangles, lace up a pair of
black and white checkered kicks and throw a hot leather bomber over it. When you dive into
prints, keep the rest of your look plain, but toughen it up with textured accents, like leather,
chains and acid-hued neon touches. Oh, and wayfarers are optional (of course they're back, too).
